Grey market is an expression like black market.
It's not exactly illegal (like black market) but it might be a little shady.

Such as what is being talked about- imported from China as "gifts" rather than as merchandise.

IMHO if you're buying the outfits for looks or play value, you are getting a good deal. If they are well made, it may not matter as much if they're not authentic and/or perfect. If you're wanting them for their collectible value, then I would pass on them.

And the outfit is definitely Bitty's "Special Occasion" outfit. I've seen it sell for as high as $60.

The only problem with the whole thing is, regardless of how well made the outfits might be, if they are not authentic AG and are being represented as such - that is illegal.

If you sell something that is a counterfeit, whether or not you know it is a counterfeit, it is still illegal.

Check out the high end purses and clothing on ebay - those catergories are FULL of counterfeit items. Unfortunately the scammers make it very hard for the legit sellers to sell their items.

beccachris: After reading other board members posts, I start to believe that this seller's AG outfits are indeed authentic, although they are possibly seconds.

I know who ya'll are talking about, without being PM...I have purchased her auctions before and LOVED it! (A bunch of Samantha dresses) They are so gorgeuos and some did actually have the tag in them. I loved each of the dresses and with the fabric being that particular print, it is hard to say they are fakes. Just thought I would chime in.

justbeingme: thanks for the re-assurance! Now we have several people from this board who bought AG outfits from that seller, and are happy with their purchases. My conclusion is: if you are a collector, don't buy from this seller. But if you just want to dress your doll up with some tag-less AG outfits at a bargain, then this is a great deal.

To everyone: thanks so much for your responses. I find this board to be very helpful, friendly and intelligent!

Does the seller have AGT stuff, or just historical? Can someone PM me the user name?

A little known secret about this seller.... email her with the outfits you want, she will customize an auction for you with an agreed apon price (about $10 per outfit). Somehow, she won't say, she has a HUGE collection of stuff @5,000 outfits, Historical and AGT mostly retired, but does have access to new stuff???
If you do email her, please tell her luanneiwanv sent you, but please don't send her negative emails, we have established a good rapport, I wouldn't want to ruin it.
For those of you who think this is wrong, remember: at the end of the day we do what we can to put food on the table, you don't know the circumstances in someone's life until you walk in their shoes.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Oh, my poor visa card. WHY OH WHY did you have to tell me this?

Atleast if I had to rely on chance and wait until she listed something I really liked, I wouldn't spend as much!
